Introduction

Slant is an AI Assistant built for financial advisors. It streamlines client management, automates day-to-day tasks (including AI meeting notetaking), and surfaces proactive suggestions so advisors can better serve their clients. We understand that you care about your privacy, and we take that responsibility seriously. This Privacy Notice explains how Slant collects, uses, shares, and safeguards personal data, and outlines the rights and choices available to you. Because privacy requirements and our services evolve, we may update this Notice periodically to reflect new practices or legal changes.

Data Protection Officer

Slant is headquartered in Utah, USA. We have appointed an internal Data Protection Officer (DPO) to address questions or concerns about our privacy practices.

How we collect and use your personal information

Slant collects personal information about visitors to our websites, account administrators, advisor users, and—when our customers choose to store it—end-client data. Typical categories include:

  • Advisor & firm data: name, job title, firm name, work email, work phone, license or registration IDs.

  • CRM data you choose to store: client names, contact details, demographic info, account numbers, meeting transcripts, documents, tasks, and notes.

  • Pre-meeting context: calendar entries, agenda items, and reminders.

  • Usage data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and interaction logs within Slant.

We process this information to:

  1. Provide, secure, and improve the Slant platform.

  2. Automate pre-meeting agenda preparation, live transcription, post-meeting summaries, and follow-up tasks.

  3. Send service-related communications (e.g., feature updates, billing notices).

  4. Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Slant never sells personal information. We share it only with third-party processors that help us deliver the service (cloud hosting, transcription engines, email/SMS providers) and only under contracts that limit their use of the data to Slant’s instructions.

Information you provide directly

Most data enters Slant when:

  • You fill out a form on our website.

  • You import or sync data from another system (e.g., custodial platform, calendar, Zoom).

  • Our AI Notetaker joins a meeting you host and captures audio for transcription.

Website usage data

Like most sites, we automatically collect log information (IP address, region, browser type, operating system, and page interactions). We rely on this legitimate interest to measure site performance, troubleshoot issues, and plan capacity. We do not place third-party marketing cookies on our public website.

Cookies and similar technologies

Slant uses first-party cookies solely for authentication and user-experience purposes. We do not use third-party tracking cookies for advertising.

Use of Slant’s cloud services

Personal information you store in Slant resides in encrypted databases hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the United States. Cloud providers do not use or access that data except to provide secure storage and retrieval.

We occasionally use integrated vendors (e.g., SMS, email delivery, speech-to-text) to fulfill specific features. Any vendor we engage is contractually bound to process data only on our behalf and to apply industry-standard security controls.

Consent and communication practices

We send operational and marketing messages only to users who have opted in. You may opt out of non-essential messages at any time by following the instructions in the communication (reply “STOP” or click “unsubscribe”). We do not share phone numbers or email addresses with third parties for their own marketing.

When we share information

We disclose personal data only:

  • To contracted subprocessors necessary to operate Slant.

  • To comply with lawful requests by public authorities (e.g., subpoenas, court orders).

  • To investigate or defend legal claims.

  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice to affected users).

We do not allow third parties to use personal data for their independent marketing.

International data transfers

Slant is U.S.-based; data we process is governed by U.S. law. If you access Slant from outside the U.S., you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to, stored, or processed in the United States.

Data subject rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, or to object to certain processing activities. To exercise these rights, contact our DPO using the details above. We will respond as required by applicable law (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Security

Slant employs administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal data:

  • AES-256 encryption at rest on AWS (EBS, RDS, S3).

  • TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit.

  • Role-based access controls and least-privilege IAM policies.

  • Continuous monitoring, logging, and routine penetration testing.

Data storage and retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Notice, satisfy legal obligations, and enforce our agreements. Transient artifacts—such as raw meeting audio—are automatically deleted within 24 hours of transcription.

Children’s data

Slant does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently obtained such data, we will delete it promptly.

Compliance

Slant adheres to applicable privacy and communications laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and TCPA.
